Ultimate Guide to the FAA Part 107 Exam Study Resources

Welcome to our comprehensive guide on the FAA Part 107 exam study resources. My name is Heather. I am a flight instructor, and I’m here to provide you with an updated study guide for the remote pilot certificate. This guide is current as of August 2022, and if you’ve previously downloaded it, grab the latest version. If you’re new, let’s dive into what this guide offers.

This guide isn’t meant to replace any existing study materials. Instead, I’ve curated a list of mostly free resources directly from the FAA to assist you in your preparation. Consider this your roadmap to the vast study materials available.

Understanding the FAA Part 107 Written Exam

  • Exam Format: It’s a 60-question multiple-choice exam. You have two hours to complete it and must score at least 70% to pass.
  • Test Strategy: Familiarize yourself with the format, read questions carefully, consider all answer choices, and use elimination tactics when unsure.
  • Practice Exams: I recommend ASA, Gleim, and King Schools for practice exams. They’re invaluable in getting you in the right mindset for the actual test.

Essential Study Resources

  • Airman Certification Standards (ACS): This document outlines everything you need to know for the exam. You can access it online or purchase a printed copy.
  • FAA’s Free Part 107 Course: Available on faa safety.gov, this course is primarily for Part 61 pilot certificate holders but is also beneficial for beginners.
  • Pilot’s Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge: A must-have for every pilot. For the Part 107 exam, focus on chapters 2, 11, and 14.
  • 14 CFR Part 107: Familiarize yourself with these regulations as they are crucial for the exam.
  • Advisory Circulars: Specifically, check out Advisory Circular 107-2 for understanding small unmanned aircraft operations.
  • Remote Pilot Study Guide (FAA-G-8082-22): Ensure you read the latest version of this guide available on the FAA website.
  • Aeronautical Information Manual (AIM): A vital resource for all pilots. For the Part 107 exam, focus on specific sections mentioned in the guide.
  • Understanding Airspace: Airspace can be complex, but it’s essential for drone operators. I’ve provided a list of resources, including a course I’ve created, to help you navigate this topic.
  • Apps and Websites: Tools like “Before You Fly” and “Aloft” can be handy for real-time airspace checks and authorizations.

This guide helps your study process by pointing you to the most relevant resources. Remember, while a wealth of information is available, not everything is pertinent to the Part 107 exam. Focus on the essentials, practice regularly, and you’ll be well-prepared for the test. Best of luck, and don’t forget to subscribe to my YouTube channel for more insights!
