Hi, and welcome back to the discovered drones podcast. My name is Heather Monthie. This is Episode Three of the podcast. So between episodes three and episodes eight. What I’m going to do is give you a snippet of my understanding airspace and VFR sectional charts for remote pilots course that I have created. It’s at fly electric monarch comm slash courses. I will link to that in the show notes. But what I wanted to do is share with you just sort of a preview of what you can expect and what you what you would get out of that course. It is a video based course. So I’m giving you six free previews of the course. And so they’re going to be topics such as well in this episode, we’re going to talk about the fastest way to get an airspace authorization. We’ll talk about typical FAA part 107 questions how to use the FAA computer testing supplement how to use sky vector as a remote pilot, understanding Class A airspace and how to identify Class E airspace or class echo airspace. So episodes three through episodes eight that is going to be what the podcast will with As episodes will be will be the audio from that part of the course. And then starting in episode nine will will pick up with some other topics. What is the fastest way to get an airspace authorization as a remote pilot? So to get a quick airspace authorization as a remote pilot, you can use something called Lance. And if you go to if you just Google FAA UAS data exchange or Lance brings you right up to this page. So Lance is low altitude, authorization and notification capability. There are a couple of different providers that allow you to submit a lance authorization. So, drone pilots can use Lance when they want to receive near real time authorization for operations under 400 feet in controlled airspace around airports. So this is available for both part 107 pilots and recreational pilots. And you can also submit a further coordination request using certain apps. So the first thing you need to do is you need to make sure that your drone is registered. So if you’re registered, if you are flying under Part one of seven, your drone needs to be registered under Part 107. And then to qualify as a recreational player you also need to have your drone registered. So Lance, there are several different Lance UAS service suppliers out there and so the FAA has provided Have a list of the service providers, but then also the different services that they offer. So some will offer part 107, near real time authorization. Some will offer services for Part 107 further coordination and some will also exceptions for recreational flying in Section 44 809. So you can come down here and you can look through all of the different apps. I do have a video on how to use the Kitty Hawk app to submit a lance request, you can check that out. But there’s all these other apps that are available out there that you can use to submit submit the lance requests as a remote pilot, so that’s going to be the quickest way to get an airspace authorization. Lance requests are not available at all airports just yet. So if you find an airport where a lance request is not available, you do need to go through the FAA drone zone website. It’s not nearly as quick as a lance request. But until Lance has been rolled out to all all airports across the United States, you’ll need to use the FAA drone zone website. So that is the quickest way for you to get an airspace authorization as a remote pilot
